Through this eight night itinerary we have included stops for you in Thimphu, Punakha and Paro for a great first taste of this incredible country.

The 3 cities, well connected by road, bring together the most important monuments of Bhutan, each with its monumental dzong (fortified monastery), seat of major religious festivals.

The itinerary includes a stop at the Dochula Pass (panorama of the Himalayas in good weather) and at the Chimi Lhakhang Fertility Monastery, founded by the Divine Madman. In Thimphu, you should not miss either the Simtokha dzong (the oldest in the country), the giant Buddha (59 m) perched on the hill, the museums (notably that of Textiles) and the craft school.

In Paro, the National Museum homed in the round guard tower of Ta Dzong (damaged by the 2011 earthquake) is also worth a look, as is the strange Dungtse Lhakhang, a 15th century temple century completely plunged into darkness.

The journey will end with a hike to the Tiger’s Nest monastery, hanging on a cliff, 900 meters above the Paro valley and its rice fields.
